Finally stepping into the Arena

Dopamine is a hell of a drug, we crave it like nothing else. For years I was so focused on work and family that I let myself get into awful shape. Every now and again I would see myself in a mirror and would be determined to make a change. I would spend days researching the perfect workout program, on Thursday I would promise to start on Monday. I would buy new workout clothes, new shoes, and find the perfect diet…

Then I would blow it off, and the reason was, each time I researched an exercise program or looked up a new diet, I was giving myself a Dopamine hit from picturing the outcome instead of actually doing it. This satisfied me for a month or two before I got mad and the cycle repeated itself.

Finally it got to be too much, I was 40 lbs overweight and everything ached. It hurt to stand up. It hurt to walk for the first few minutes until my body warmed up. I could barely put my left sock on, a combination of my belly and inflexible hips.

I was on Twitter one night and saw Jason from Anyman Fitness post about his No Cardio Fat Shredding challenge. I started scrolling through testimonials and photos, and almost let myself get some Dopamine and go back to my life. But something clicked, I don’t know what it was. But I signed up for the challenge on Saturday that started on Monday. My girlfriend started at the same time.

Monday morning, my girlfriend was downstairs in our little basement gym getting her workout in. I slept in and went to work, came home and finally felt guilty and got my workout in. Fast forward to today (Memorial Day), we are starting our final week. I am down 15 lbs, several inches off my waist, and I have no trouble putting on my socks or getting up off the couch.

I have missed one workout out of the 15 scheduled. I am 85% perfect on my diet. Realizing how simple it was to get moving made me kind of pissed it took me so long to start. After this week, I am starting a 12 week program which will be the “3 Day A Week Upper/Lower Split” by BowTiedOx. I will modify it with AJAC’s Tall Man training. Not that I am excessively tall, I am 6’1″. My problem is I have long arms and legs so have never been able to excel at bench press or squats.

Me at 250 lbs

I didn’t mean to ramble on about fitness, this post was supposed to be about my WiFi money journey. In the end the motivation is the same. Better myself in every way possible. Future posts will be about the SaaS project I have started. I wanted to step into the Arena and stop sitting on the sidelines.
